After a busy period of play over the last few weeks, it is with great pleasure that we welcome the Christmas break, and though it will be quiet on the pitch, we have a fantastic line up of events at Crosshaven Rugby Football Club to keep you active.

Sunday the 25th, Christmas Day, will see the club open from 1pm to 4pm for the annual Christmas Day drinks. There has always been a great tradition of members enjoying a drink at the club on Christmas Day, and we look forward to seeing all of you once again this year.

The annual St Stephens Day Long Kick will be held again this year. It proved to be a resounding success in 2010, with everyone involved having a great day. This year all who are interested are asked to meet at Fountainstown Carpark at 2pm sharp. The event, similar to the Puc Fada, will see teams of contestants kick a rugby ball along the route back to the Rugby Club. The Christmas raffle will be held in the club after the long kick. There will be food and drinks at the club for all to enjoy and the Munster v Connacht, Rabo Direct Pro 12 game, will be televised at the club also.

New Years Eve promises to be massive at the club with a 'Hat Party' being held. The dress code is that a hat, of any sort, must be worn. There will be food, a top class DJ, Drinks, a great crowd and a fantastic atmosphere in store to ring in 2012. It is the place to be this New Years Eve, Tickets are only Ten Euro, Looking forward to seeing you all there.

New Years day will see the club opeen also with ordinary Sunday opening hours from 12.30pm.

There is J1 friendly against Cork Con scheduled for January 2nd. Kickoff is 2.30pm at Myrtleville Cross and your support, as ever, is very much welcome. The next J1 league match is against Kanturk, also in Myrtleville Cross, on the 8th of January at 2.30pm.

Crosshaven Upset The Odds Away To Clonmel.

It was yet again another successful weekend for Crosshaven Rugby as the J1’s beat Clonmel away from home, 15-7, whilst the U19’s emerged victorious in Myrtleville Cross with a relatively easy win over Clonakilty.

New signings Daryl Foley and Barry Kelleher fitted in well in the side, and it was Daryl who put the first score on the board with a penalty for Crosshaven. Crosshaven did the basics well and gave away very few penalties in what was largely a disciplined performance. The side showed good support at the breakdown and also rucked very effectively. The youthful backline fired well under the leadership of the experienced Ross O’Connell, and both Darren O’Keeffe and Kieran Doran ran in tries. Crosshaven were 15-0 up late on but Clonmel were to score a consolation try, which they converted, 15-7 at fulltime. Despite being down to thirteen players at one stage, Crosshaven held up well and the experience of Mickey Buckley, Merle O’Connell and Rory Hoffler in particular stood out when the chips were down.

The J3’s also played very well on Sunday last but were unfortunate to lose narrowly to Cork Transport, just one point separated the sides in the finish as Transport merged 8-7.

The U19’s won well with a 19-5 scoreline in Myrtleville Cross last Saturday. They are now second in their group and will be hoping for strong performances in the remainder of their games.

There is a busy schedule of events on in the club over the Christmas period, most notably the Long Kick on St Stephens Day, a hat party on New Years Eve, and a J1 friendly against Cork Constitution on the 2nd of January. We will keep you fully informed of times through email and on the website over coming days.

U19's Destroy Cork Constitution And J3's Beat Bandon PDF Print E-mail

The Crosshaven U19's beat Cork Constitution comprehensively in the league on Saturday last away from home, 26-5. Crosshaven opened up well with a penalty by outhalf Conor Lyden to go 3-0 up after 2 minutes. Within six minutes another penalty by Lyden saw the visitors go 6-0 ahead. Crosshaven were very much in control throughout much of the first half, and lived deep within the Con half for long periods. Kieran Doran touched down for Crosshaven's first try after 20 minutes, though the conversion was missed and so it was 11-0. Doran ran in another try after 33 minutes and the conversion followed by Lyden to make it 18-0. Cork Con hit back in the last minute of the first half with a try of their own though they missed the conversion so it stood 18-5 at the interval. The second half opened at a slightly slower pace than the first and it was sixteen minutes in before Lyden scored the first points of the second, a penalty to put Crosshaven 21-5 ahead. It became 26-5 after 65 minutes when winger Kevin Baxter finished off a move after a great rolling maul by the forwards and a flowing break from the backline. The conversion was missed but it mattered little, as Crosshaven left with a massive 26-5 win.

The J3's travelled to Bandon on Sunday for a league clash also, and played fantastic rugby to emerge with an 11-0 victory. Two penalties courtesy of Ken O'Halloran and a try from Mark O'Donovan saw the visitors go well ahead. Good defence meant Crosshaven held firm even through Bandon pressure, and come the final whistle they emerged worthy winners.

The J1's are away to Clonmel next weekend, a 2.30pm kickoff on Sunday in the league. The J3's travel to play Cork Transport in Mayfield on Sunday at 2.30pm also. the U19's are in Myrtleville Cross on Saturday afternoon at 12pm where they take on Clonakilty.

Your support is vital over the weekend, Please come along and support all our teams.

There is yet another fantastic weekend of Rugby in store for Crosshaven for the coming weekend, make sure you're involved.
The J1's had no game last weekend as the opposition, Kanturk, cancelled, but this weekend the J1 side is traveling to Clonmel for a league fixture. Clonmel will be a tough side to beat and finding a result on the road will be a big ask, but the lads are more than able, and are in good form going into the weekend. Your support in Clonmel for a 2.30pm kickoff on Sunday would be greatly appreciated by the team, and will be sure to help their efforts.
Last weekend the J3's had a very positive result, emerging 11-0 winners over Bandon, away from home. This weekend they travel to Mayfield to play Cork Transport, another 2.30pm kickoff on Sunday. Again, your support would be greatly appreciated as the lads vie to make it two in a row.
The U19's play Clonakilty in Myrtleville Cross on Saturday at 12pm. The team is going very well this season, and the side will be confident going into the clash following their superb, 26-5, demolition of Cork Constitution last weekend. There is always a fantastic atmosphere at the U19's matches and this weekend will be no different, so please come along and shout for the team.
The newly renovated clubhouse and tarmac carpark now gives the club a modern, warm and welcoming feel, and again this weekend there will be an opportunity to enjoy a drink and relax in the fantastic new facilities. The Scarlets V Munster Heineken Cup Fixture will be televised at the club on Saturday afternoon, a 3.40pm kickoff. There is going to be an electric atmosphere so don't miss it. The club will also be open Sunday afternoon from 12.30pm.
There is a Hat Party planned for New Years Eve, it promises to be an unbelievable night and the best venue to ring in the new year, for further details or for tickets please contact Russell Barry on 0878179621. The Club is now a top class venue for parties or celebrations of any kind, please do not hesitate to contact us if you've any enquiries.
Be part of it all this weekend with Crosshaven Rugby.

U19's Shine On Saturday As J1's Are Unlucky Against Galbally PDF Print E-mail

Big Win For The U19's, Though J1's Lose Narrowly.

Crosshaven U19's won well at home to Ballincollig on Saturday. Kieran Doran ran in two tries and Andrew 'Paddy' Tomas scored another. Conor Lyden added to the tally with a penalty that saw the team emerge, comprehensive 18-0 winners.

The J1's lost narrowly to a well organised Galbally side in Myrtleville Cross on Sunday. Crosshaven took the lead through a Kieran Doran penalty in the opening minutes, though Galbally soon settled. The visitors scored a try after 22 minutes and followed it with a conversion to lead 7-3. Another Galbally try followed, and the score was 14-3 at half time, it was a period of dominance for Galbally, though they missed two penalties in the first half and another in the second. Crosshaven responded late on in the second half with a Rory Hofler try and it was followed with a conversion by Doran, 14-10 the score with only minutes remaining. Crosshaven pushed hard for the last few minutes but to no avail as Galbally held strong. The Crosshaven support felt slightly aggrieved by some controversial refereeing decisions, and losing Scrum half, Paul Cogan and No.8 Eamon Ring through injury didn't help matters, though with a losing bonus point gained, all was not lost. It's onwards and upwards now for the J1 side who take on Kanturk next weekend in Myrtleville Cross, a 2.30pm kickoff on Sunday. Support is needed, so come along and shout for the lads.
