The final of the O'Sullivan Cup Final was played against Clonakilty in Muskerry RFC's home pitch in the Inniscarra Sports Grounds on Saturday October 24th 2009. Crosshaven travelled with a strong team with a couple of players back from injury. Crosshaven lost the toss and were playing with the wind in the first half. They got off to a great start after some good driving play by the forwards finished off with outhalf Dave Walsh scoring under the posts with prop Ken O'Halloran converting. After a heel against the head No. 8 Douglas Deane barged over for a second try. Further tries from winger Guillame Lereun, Douglas Deane (again) and prop Tommy Hill together with a penalty from Ken O'Halloran had Crosshaven 32 - 0 up at half time. Clonakilty came back strongly at the start of the second half with a quick try but that was it as Crosshaven tightened up their defence from there on denying Clon any chances. It remained a close match for the remainder of the half. Then, with a couple of minutes left No. 8 Deane picked up a loose ball from half way, beat a couple of defenders and ran in the final try of the day to complete his hat trick. The conversion was missed and the final whistle went soon after that. It was a great day for the J2s coming a couple of weeks after some heavy away defeats. Captain Artur Melevisw lifted the O'Sullivan Cup, Crosshaven's first (and hopefully not last) trophy of the year. Its a tough away league fixture to Cork Con next Sunday November 1st 2009. Please come and support the lads in Templehill. With no J1 fixture it should be a good match. Hopefully the lads can build on the cup success and continue successfully the league. Upcoming J2 Fixtures: Sunday November 1st 2009: AWAY to Cork Constitution in the J2 League KO 12.00 midday Sunday November 1st 2009: HOME to Carrigaline in the J2 League KO 12.00 midday |
