Last Tuesday night our under 17 girls took on a touring Canadian side in Bandon with the help of some Bandon players. The Canadians had already played their first match in Naas and had quite a comprehensive win there. The first half was very much dominated by the Canadians who loved to run the ball from all areas of the pitch; this was mainly due to their outstanding speed and agility but our girls held on as best they could but despite some exceptional tackling and excellent defence by the forwards the Canadians were ahead 17 - 0 by half time.
Following some sound advice from the coaches the second half got off to a good start as the Crosshaven girls slowed the game down and used their forwards for more rucking and mauling which payed off when they got a penalty five meters from the line. A quick tap and go brought the girls over the line for their first try followed by the successful conversion. Crosshaven backs then tried a kicking game which the Canadians were not used to this gave the girls some good forward movement and when awarded another penalty we kicked for touch giving a lineout only 6 meters from the line. The short throw to the front of the line gave Laura McGee the chance to put the head down and drive over the line to score. The conversion didn’t make it and the game ended Canada17 Crosshaven 12. |
