Crosshaven U-18 and U-16 girl’s rugby is now in its second season and got off to a good start this year with a number of new girls joining us and willing to take up the challenge.
The girls train each Saturday morning at 10am and on Wednesday evenings at 7pm, each training session lasts for 90 minutes. All our coaches have attended the relevant courses for girls rugby and would be happy to speak with any parents or potential players aged 13 to 18 who would like to give rugby a go.
Girls rugby is played the very same as the boys apart from the girls do not have contested scrums, all other aspects of the game are the same including lineout’s, rucks, mauls, kicking and of course the love of the game.

The Munster branch do also allow teams consisting of 7, 10 or 13 players as this then accommodates clubs with smaller numbers

The Crosshaven U-18 girls are in the Munster division 2 league which consists of Ballincollig,  Bandon, Highfield,  and a team from Dingle. All teams play each other twice one home and one away match, Crosshaven are currently at the top of this league.

The Munster U-18 girl’s trials take place on January 10th and 24th in Fermoy,
Crosshaven has six girls selected to attend, Muireann Guilfoyle,  Aoife O’Halloran, Maria Moran, Vanessa Lawler, Hollie Pennefather and Christine O’Donoghue. All the very best to them.

The U-16 girls are also in a Munster league playing teams such as Young Munster, Shannon, Thurles, Clanwilliam, Mallow, Fermoy and St.Mary’s
.
It is hoped that we will be in a position to invite girls from the local secondary schools to an open day at the club in the next few weeks,
This will include some basic rugby skills and hopefully a lot of fun on the day.

The U-18s next match is at home to Corca Dhuibhne on January 17th

The U-16s  next match is away to St. Mary’s on January 24th
